With many of the country’s top racing horses being rested for the upcoming year, end meets, promising upcoming animals took advantage to shine at the Eon, Quaicy and Keyno/Number 28 Bushlot/Adventure Action Group one-day horse race meet at the Kennard Memorial Turf Club on Sunday.

The feature event over a distance of furlongs saw Slim Shady winning from pre-race favorite, King Stanley by three lengths. Miss Anjelie ran a distant third but just ahead of Red Jet. The winner rode away with $170,000 while the second place finisher pocketed $85,000 with the third and fourth place finishers collecting $42,000 and $21,000 respectively.
The day saw six races being run. The two-year-old event saw Princess Shoma of the K. Sooklall Stables with Jockey Colin Ross on board winning. The second place went to Perfect Return ahead of Wise Tom. The event had an overall purse of $205,000 with the winner pocketing $110,000.
The L ‘1’ and lower event over a distance of five furlongs with a top prize of $100,000 while the second place finisher got $50,000 and third and fourth place winners pocketed $25,500 and $12,500 respectively. The race was won by Irish Baby piloted by Jockey Kevin Blake. In second place was Victoria Secret ahead of touch of Class previously called Little Magiver.
The ‘K’ and Lower class fetching an overall purse of $225,000 and was won by Kings Stanley as Jockey R. Ramnaught was able to propel the animal to outrun Massapequa Dr and take the $120,000 first prize. Victoria Secret again placed third this time beating Irish Baby into fourth place.
The race for animals classified as L ‘2’ and lower over a distance of five furlongs had seven horses under the starters orders and it was total gallop from gate to pole, Sweet Silence of the M. Balgobin Stable ran past the finish pole ahead of Matrix, Country Girl and Royal Paymaster finishing in that order. The winning purse was $80,000.
The race for unclassified animals which kicked off the one-day meeting saw Princess Zalida of the R. Ramnarian Stales recording its first win compliments of Jockey Y. Drapaul. The reward was $40,000 for the owner.
The other animals that were registered as finishing the race were Red Weasel running second behind her stablemate, Royal Spice and Baby Girl.
The champion Jockey was Jockey Drapaul with Kevin being judged as runner-up and also the champion trainer.
Proceeds from the day’s event will go towards the Number 28 Bushlot/Adventure in Action Group’s ongoing school feeding programme and give the children of the area a much deserved Christmas party. (Andrew Carmichael)
