Home News NGO spreads holiday cheer at annual Christmas toy giveaway
The foundation which stemmed from simply deciding to give a gift to a child has now blossomed into a Non-profit Organisation (NGO) known as the ‘Give Another Chance Foundation”, which is solely grounded in doing charitable work for the 8-years of its existence.
The foundation on Saturday, put smiles and excitement on the faces of children as it hosted its fourth Christmas toy giveaway drive at the National Gymnasium where 350 children from across Georgetown participated.
Founder and Executive Director of “Give Another Chance Foundation”, Miranda Thakur-Deen told Guyana Times that she was eager to host the event because she has a zest for sharing, and has seen the foundation grow over the past years.
“This event, I’m very excited for because I’ve seen us grow from year to year, and this is our fourth year in Georgetown, and every year the foundation aspires to give over a thousand gifts…every year I’m in the background, I observe to make it better every year, and this year we had a successful event” she said.
Additionally, President of Foundation, Alisha Amos said that the Christmas season is the perfect time to give back, especially to the children. The foundation refers to such events as “the way of hope”, a pillar on which it functions so as to meet the aims of sharing and entertaining the children several times during the year, which includes Christmas.
“We would just like to give back to the children in Georgetown…but our foundation is about sharing and giving, and this season we want to give back and put smiles on the children’s face, we are looking to distribute 350 gifts today.”
As was explained, the foundation caters to distribute over a thousand gifts while it seeks to take the event at different areas, the next one being Baramita, Region 1( North West District). Additionally, the foundation hopes to make their events superior in the future as they grow and succeed in these charitable acts.
The children played games and were also entertained by different cartoon characters such as Minnie and Mickey Mouse. They even shared photo moments with Santa Clause.
