Nigel Dudson’s statements admitted into evidence

… trial into Kaneville arson continues

Investigating Officer Keith Conway on Monday testified before Magistrate Judy Latchman, as the trial into the death of eight-month-old Romain Seth – who lost his life when his family’s property was set on fire earlier this year – continued at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The witness walked the court through the investigation process and relayed that Dudson had, under caution, admitted to throwing the gun into the yard of Michelle Menezes, the baby’s grandmother, when Police conducted a raid on his premises and arrested him.

Dead: Eight-month-old, Romain Seth

After the owner of the house refused to return the gun, Dudson reportedly threatened to kill them all and was sent to stay with an aunt in Timehri, East Bank Demerara by his mother after this incident.
According to Conway, Dudson claimed that he became fearful after hearing of the fire incident and fled into the interior; however, he continues to proclaim his innocence.
As the witness wrapped up his testimony, Magistrate Latchman ruled that the court finds that all statements made by Dudson to the Police during investigation were made freely and voluntarily, thereby exercising her discretion to permit same to be used as evidence during the course of the trial.
A fire razed the Lot 462 Third Field, Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, residence of the deceased toddler on January 23, 2017, and left 10 other persons homeless. Dudson, an ex-soldier and miner, along with two others – Keon Ashby and “Waynie”, have since been implicated in the arson.
