NIS blames computerised system for delay in claims processing
…urges employers to sync records with entity
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), Dianne Lewis-Baxter, has said the processing of reimbursements and other financial claims by the entity may take longer than usual because of the “computerised system” they use.

Speaking with Guyana Times after several complains by members of the public over the slothfulness of the entity in processing claims, the PRO said there are some challenges with the data entry.
“We are a computerised system and so the way we used to operate in the past, the computers would not permit us to operate that way… and so what has happened is my employer may have very well paid my contributions but may have paid it with an error and so if it has an error, the computer picks it up, it will not post my contributions to my records,” she explained.
Lewis-Baxter said there may also be cases where the employer has not paid or has not been paying NIS contributions which also leads to a delay in the process. She reminded that the non-payment of taxes to the NIS by employers is unlawful.
Other reasons for delayed claims would include incorrectly spelt names or even addresses, the PRO added.
