NIS said the closure will take effect from May 7. During this time, the building and its environs will be sanitised while COVID-19 tests will be conducted on staff.
Operations are expected to resume on May 11.
Meanwhile, NIS said all of its other local offices as well as the office situated at Camp and Bent Streets, Georgetown, will remain open. Pensioners are encouraged to utilise the services of these other locations.
On April 28, NIS had announced that the operations of its New Amsterdam branch had been paused temporarily, as five of the branch’s employees had tested positive for COVID.
Despite the closure, management had said that the distribution of Pension Books would have continued throughout the week.
Following that closure, on April 30, NIS had to close its Bartica branch for a similar reason.
