No. 72 Cut & Load undefeated after 3 rounds

Trophy Stall Port Mourant/UCCA U-19 50-Over tournament…

The Upper Corentyne Cricket Association’s Under-19 50-Over round robin tournament sponsored by the Trophy Stall branch at Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice continued last Saturday with round 3 of the competition, wherein No.73 Young Warriors, No. 72 Cut & Load, and the Radha Krishna Foundation Academy all secured wins.
At the Number 48 Village ground, Number 73 Young Warriors defeated No. 48 Challengers by 128 runs. Batting first, No. 73 Young Warriors scored 343 for 8 off their allotted 50 overs. Leading the innings were Sarwan Chaitnarine, with 66; Niradj Singh, with 56; Haresh Ramlochan, with 51; Trevon Sukhu, with 40; and Vettorie Latchman, with 40.

In reply, No. 48 Challengers were skittled out for 215 runs off 26 overs, despite K. Hooper’s 65 and B. Downer’s 51. Bowling for No. 73 Young Warriors, Sarwan Chaitnarine returned with the ball to take 6 for 38; Afseer Hussain took 2 for 28, and Vettorie Latchman took 2 for 26, all playing supporting roles.
At Number 66 Village ground, Radha Krishna Foundation Academy defeated No. 66 Cricket Club by 47 runs. Batting first, Radha Krishna Foundation Academy were bowled out for a meagre 151 off 33 overs, with M. Headly making 65, Krishna Thomas 23, and I. Singh 15 as top scorers.
Bowling for No. 66 Cricket Club, N Satram took 2 for 37, N. Tahal 2 for 32, and Andrew Singh 2 for 10.
In reply, No. 66 were bowled out for 107 in 27 overs, as what looked like a sure victory was turned into a nightmare. Eric Sampat with 27 and Karan Persaud with 22 were the only ones to show resistance with the bat.
Bowling for Radha Krishna Foundation Academy, O. Indall took 5 for 29 and M. Headly 2 for 30.
At the Number 72 Village ground, No. 72 Cut and Load defeated Scottsburg United by 19 runs. No. 72 Cut and Load batted first, and were bowled out for 157 in 21.1 overs. A. February led with 72, while Z. Shaw scored 18 and M. Chaitnarine 17 as they played supporting roles.
Bowling for Scottsburg United, G. Budram took 4 for 53; A. Naha 2 for 23, and S. Norah 2 for 34.
In reply, Scottsburg United were bowled out for 138 in 34.2 overs, with R. Gorden, 50; B. Nandalall, 19; and C. Budram, 16, being the only ones to put up a fight.
Bowling for No. 72 Cut and Load, M. Chaitnarine took 4 for 16 and Y. Budhoo 3 for 13.
After three rounds of competition, No. 72 Cut and Load are leading the standings with 6 points, followed by Scottsburg United and No. 73 Young Warriors both on 4 points; Radha Krishna Foundation Academy on 2 points, and No. 48 Challengers on zero. Two points were allotted for a win. As mentioned above, this tournament is organised by the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association, and is sponsored by Mr. Ramesh Sunich, Managing Director of Trophy Stall at Bourda Market in Georgetown, which is soon opening a new location at Market Road, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
