No acceptance of late entries for KMTC pre-independence meet

The organiser of the upcoming Pre-Independence Horse Race Meet, retired Justice Cecil Kennard is firm on his stance that late entries will not be accepted when registration closes on Sunday.
Thirty entries have been to date for the meet, which is slated for May 20 at Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club (KMTC), Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.

Another action-packed day is anticipated on May 20 at the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club

Justice Kennard further highlighted crowd attractions such as T&T, who won its last two starts in the H & Lower Class; Midnight Blue; Red Jet; MerryAnn, and Miss Olympic among other top names will feature in seven planned races.
One of those races will be for the 2-year-old trial and covers a distance of two furlongs. Given the tradition that the race season starts May 1 and the fact that the horses will not be ready for a full distance of five to six furlongs, this race was implemented, Justice Kennard indicated.
With registration ranging from $11,000 to $28,000 per horse, dependant on class, the big prize of the day will come in the H & Lower which has a top prize of $240,000 while the J1 & Lower has a prize of $160,000. The rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) will be used to govern the action.
Next on the agenda for the Club will be meets on July 29, October 21 and the grand meet on Boxing Day.
