As investigations continue into the shooting of a money changer at the Water Street Popeyes Fast Food outlet on Sunday afternoon, the Police are yet to make an arrest.
In fact, the Police are still reviewing the surveillance footage taken from the establishment.
Vishwanauth Nouwbat, called Vishal, of C Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was shot once to the abdomen by a lone gunman, who attacked him and his girlfriend.
The suspect reportedly walked up to the 35-year-old man and demanded that he hand over the money he was carrying and other valuables. Nouwbat refused, and was shot once after which the bandit left the restaurant, jumped on a motorcycle and left the scene.
The injured man was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted. He is said to be in stable condition. Hospital sources confirmed that the bullet that was lodged in his abdomen was removed and he was recuperating.
Speaking with Guyana Times on Monday, Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Police Force, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan noted that the Police were working assiduously to nab the suspect.
He stated that while the surveillance footage has been reviewed, a clear image of the perpetrator is yet to be retrieved. However, investigators are also trying to identify his motorcycle-riding accomplice.
