Your Eyewitness is reminded of the old saw about the fella who thought at long last – after trekking through the dark – he saw a light at the end of the tunnel – only to discover to his demise, it was actually a train hurtling towards him!! And this is how your Eyewitness’ been thinking all night about this Caricom intervention to oversee a recount of all the ballots countrywide.
He has absolutely no problem with the idea of the recount. After all, what could be more logical on a disputed count of anything than starting afresh – in the presence of a referee?? But the present system of counting votes also had its logic, didn’t it?? You start counting at the point of voting, you then agglomerate those totals per region, and then it’s all put together by the Commission and a declaration of the winner is made!
But right in front of our eyes, we saw the system gamed in Reg 4 by the RO and his helpers on the GECOM staff!! And all the while, Granger smirks unctuously about allowing GECOM to operate independently!! That’s like saying when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, the fellas in Houston had absolutely nothing to do with it!! Your Eyewitness might be idealistic, but he ain’t stupid!! Didn’t Granger inform all of us he was the “man with the plan”?
So the question is, after going to all this trouble to muck up the works to get the fudged declaration on the Reg 4 count – in the face of the anger of the international community – would he now throw in his hand?? Just doesn’t make sense – unless, of course, he’s got something up his sleeve! Just like your Eyewitness’ been saying for years Granger would rig the elections – he didn’t know exactly HOW, but the rig was always in – the upcoming recount would never have been agreed to if Granger didn’t know the outcome. And that outcome would be gamed – just like the Reg 4 SoPs tabulation.
There are so many variables. Remember it was Granger who suggested the move and he picked the Referee – Caricom. Is he also going to pick the methodology? We’re told the boxes are in sealed containers? Wouldn’t these containers have to be moved to one location? Then, after the count by the Caricom, what will be the role of GECOM, since the law says only that body can pronounce authoritatively on the final result?
Suppose they refuse to announce? And we can go on and on ‘cause the PNC and Granger will be going on and on!!

OK, Your Eyewitness has been around the block – and some on these elections. Even in ordinary social interactions, there’s a certain amount of hypocrisy used. We really shouldn’t tell that buffoon who’s been lecturing you about coronavirus for the past hour that he’s full of sh*t, should you?? We call it “good manners” as we roll our eyes as discretely as we can!! And, of course, in politics the hypocrisy is on display even more glaringly. Volda Lawrence chairs a party that boasts it introduced “social cohesion” and then goes on to say she only has “wuk for PNC people”.
But this hypocrisy on the rigging of the election in Reg 4 takes hypocrisy to levels that deserve a new name to describe it!! Maybe the word “Mingo” might work since everyone and their (foreign) uncle saw how this fella and his myrmidons insisted they were following the “letter and spirit” of the legislation to tabulate the SoPs while simultaneously committing a blatant heist!!
