Following the collapse of revetment works to the Coomacka access bridge, which was caused by a heavy downpour earlier this month, there has since been no improvement to its condition.
This information was confirmed by Councillor of Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Berbice) Regional Democratic Council (RDC) and Chairman of the Coomacka Development Council (CDC) Dexter Harding.
The CDC chairman had indicated that it was the third time the bridge had collapsed. He had pointed to faulty works on the bridge by the contractor who was contracted through the RDC as the main cause.
Another possible cause he had highlighted is the suspected over- topping of ponds/reservoirs in the community belonging to the bauxite company Bosai Minerals Group Guyana Incorporated (BMGGI).
The downpour had also led to massive flooding and erosion in the small farming community which also caused the main pipelines to be exposed.
