…over 6000 in home isolation
While the Health Ministry reported no new COVID-19-related deaths as of Monday, it said that 438 more persons have been infected with the deadly virus, with a staggering 6006 in home isolation. The majority of the new infections are in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). So far, 15 of the 1070 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in January.
The new infections were recorded in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam): six cases; Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara): 50 cases; Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica): 304 cases; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice): 13 cases; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne): 38 cases; Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni): two cases; Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni): two cases; Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo): 17 cases and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice): six cases.
The overall number of confirmed cases has moved to 45,340 since March 2020, of which 21,178 are males and 24,162 are females. There are currently 6359 active COVID-19 cases in Guyana. More than half of these cases were detected in Region Four.
A breakdown of the active cases are as follows: Region One (45), Region Two (145), Region Three (694), Region Four (3972), Region Five (151), Region Six (567), Region Seven (201), Region Eight (12), Region Nine (278) and Region 10 (271).
Presently, there are 92 persons hospitalised; 51 of them are at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown. Only eight of the 51 persons are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Another 107 persons are in institutional isolation, 6006 are in home isolation, and 11 persons are in institutional quarantine.
As of Monday, the total number of recovered cases was 38,149. To date, the Ministry has done 449,543 COVID-19 tests. Meanwhile, on Monday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) reported 298,915,721 cases globally with 5,469,303 deaths.
The WHO also reported that in the Regions of the Americas, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased to 108,806,129 with 2,422,138 fatalities.
The Health Ministry is reminding the public to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 Emergency Measures which are in effect until January 31, 2022.
This order emphasises the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home, maintaining six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of the virus.
