Nomination Day Series announced for 2026 Guyana Cup

The 2026 Guyana Cup is set for August 23, and preparations have already begun.
This year’s Guyana Cup is once again presented by the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee, and a new format will take shape.
This year, horses will have the option to win at an earlier event and secure their spot to run at the prestigious Guyana Cup.
The Guyana Cup Committee officially released the 2026 Guyana Cup Nomination Series, covering the Guyana Cup (Mile), Guyana Cup Sprint, and Guyana-Bred Derby.
Three races, four nomination days, one championship season. The nomination days are February 1, 2026, at Port Mourant Turf Club; April 5, 2026, at Port Mourant Turf Club; May 3, 2026, at Bush Lot United Turf Club; and July 5, 2026, at Port Mourant Turf Club (Final Nomination Day).

The Guyana Cup Committee has announced Nomination Day Series for this year’s prestigious event

Each nomination day will feature Sprint, Mile, and Derby nomination races. On each nomination day, only first and second-place finishers qualify for the respective final race.
Nomination bonuses are to be paid to the first-, second-, and third-place finishers. A horse may qualify only once per race category. If a qualified horse finishes again in a qualifying position, the nomination passes to the next eligible finisher.
Promoter-added bonus money applies on February 1 and April 5. The Guyana Cup (Mile) offers $500,000, the Sprint $300,000, and the Derby $200,000.
Winners on February 1 and April 5 will receive 100 per cent FREE entry into the corresponding final race. If a horse has already received free entry, the benefit passes to the next eligible finisher.
The discounts are as follow: Feb 1 – 2nd place: 40% discount; Apr 5 – 2nd place: 20% discount; May 3 – 1st-3rd: 15% discount; July 5 – 1st-3rd: 10% discount. Free entry overrides all discounts and may be used only once.

Trainer & jockey bonuses
$500,000 Trainer Bonus – qualifying two horses in any one race.
$500,000 Jockey Bonus – qualifying two horses in any one race.

Imported horses – open slots
Imported horses – open slots; four gate positions reserved in the Guyana Cup & Guyana Cup Sprint. First preference: highest earnings in 2026 (+1% entry fee).
Second preference: highest class (+2% entry fee). All imports are subject to Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JJTRC) approval.
Nomination fees are mandatory; G$100,000 security advance retained upon qualification.
Refunds are only available with a recognised veterinary scratch.
According to the organisers, this is the most structured, competitive, and rewarding Guyana Cup series ever introduced. Early commitment matters. Performance matters. Champions earn their way in.
