North Ruimveldt woman remanded

A North Ruimveldt businesswoman was on Tuesday remanded to prison after denying she trafficked a 15-year-old-girl before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Patricia Williams was represented by Attorney Sonia Parag.

It was alleged that the 50-year-old woman between June 1 and July 30, last at Omai, engaged in Trafficking In Persons; that is to say she recruited, transferred, transported and harboured a 15-year-old girl for sexual exploitation.

The matter was in held, incamera, as it involved a juvenile. The public was asked to exit the court room to facilitate the matter.

The matter was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court where the defendant is scheduled to make her next court appearance on December 17.
