A man was arrested after Police conducted a raid on a Norton Street, Lodge home on Saturday. Police confirmed that the man was found with an unlicensed pistol and nine matching rounds of ammunition.
He is expected to be charged as soon as Monday. Only recently, acting Police Commissioner David Ramnarine revealed that a total of 46 firearms were seized during the period January 1 to August 20; that is, 23 pistols, 13 revolvers and 10 shot guns.
The highest number of seizures was recorded in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) with 20 seizures, while F Division (Interior Locations) followed with 12 firearms.
However, the Police continue to conduct raids, resulting in the seizure of firearms and ammunition. On Friday last, two persons were arrested after Police unearthed an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in a vehicle they were travelling in.
It was reported that Police ranks acting on information, intercepted a motor car on the Golden Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, where a search was conducted and a 12 gauge single barrel shotgun was found.
The driver of the vehicle and a passenger were taken into custody and were subsequently charged.
