A Norton Street, Georgetown resident was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fabayo Azore when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts slapped with a possession of marijuana charge.
Damion Evans pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on August 3 while he was at the Brickdam Police Station, he had in his possession 134.3 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
According to the prosecution’s case, Evans went to the Police Station to collect his motorcycle that was impounded by officers attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters on August 1, 2018.
Upon Evans producing the documents for the motorcycle, the ranks smelt what was suspected to be cannabis on his person. A search was conducted, and a black plastic bag containing several ziplock bags of leaves and stems was unearthed under a helmet.
As such, the man was subsequently arrested and charged for the offence.
The prosecution objected to bail being granted, citing the serious nature of the offence committed. Magistrate Azore remanded the 35-year-old until August 17, 2018.
