“Nothing but perfect” – GCB President on COVID-19 measures during WI vs Pakistan series

The Guyana National Stadium at Providence was once again graced with boisterous cheers from the country’s avid cricket fans as the game returned for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although masked up and socially distanced, it was a welcomed change of scenery for many, especially the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) President Bissoondyal Singh, who hailed Guyana’s Government as trailblazers in handling the pandemic.
“Welcome back to the fans. I think Guyana is getting out of the COVID pandemic; the Government is playing a serious role, I think they’re the trailblazers for the Caribbean in opening up and I just want everybody to enjoy themselves,” Singh opined.

Upon entering the Stadium, patrons over the weekend were stopped at a medical checkpoint and had to produce their COVID-19 vaccination cards and identification.
In the stands, officials and Police Officers were present to ensure patrons were seated apart and wore their masks.
President Singh is of the opinion that the protocols instituted to ensure the safety of fans at the National Stadium during the West Indies v Pakistan series are “nothing but perfect”.
“Nothing but perfect, Cricket West Indies, in collaboration with the Guyana Cricket Board, working closely with the Government of Guyana and all the necessary agencies – we have managed; as you can see, everything is running smooth with the Guyana Defence Force, the Civil Defence Commission, the Ministry of Health and also the COVID-19 Task Force,” Singh told <<<Guyana Times Sport>>>.
He added, “Everything is going as smooth as possible.”
With the final game in the four-match T20 International series scheduled to bowl off at 11:00h today, the GCB President also encouraged patrons to come out, while sharing some advice about crowding.
He said, “I’ll encourage fans to go down to the GCB office, get your tickets. Tickets are moving very quickly, you can get your car pass there too and come to the National Stadium. But see how early you can do that to avoid a crowd. We need for you to be seated early.”
The series currently stands at 1-0 in Pakistan’s favour, with games one and three, in Barbados and Guyana respectively, being washed out by rainfall.
