The new National Sports Commission has been set in stone following the publicising of the Government Notice in the Official Gazette.
Dated May 20, and signed by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira, the notice indicated that Guyana’s Cabinet considered the Memorandum presented by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr, and approved the appointment of six persons to the National Sports Commission Board.
The tenure of the board will be two years to the current date, ending the life of the board in May 2023.
The Commission consists of renowned football organizer Kashif Mohammed, who will act in the capacity of Chairman; Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) President Bissoondyal Singh, Guyana Lawn Tennis Association President Christy Campbell, Guyana Hockey Board President Phillip Fernandes, Chartered Accountant Cheteram Ramdial, and Dellon Davidson.
This development will now pave the way for the appointment of a Director of Sport. The Board is expected to meet and consult before appointing the candidate.
