NSC, Sports Ministry extend condolences

Jude Bentley’s passing…

Following last Saturday’s untimely death of former National Cyclist Jude Bentley, a respected member of the Cycling Federation,
top sports officials like Social Cohesion Minister Dr. George Norton and Director of Sports Christopher Jones have extended their sincerest condolences to his relatives and other survivors, including his friends and fans.

“The Hon. Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton, wishes to extend sincerest condolences to the relatives, friends, fans and well-wishers of National Cyclist Jude Bentley. Bentley’s passing has undoubtedly saddened the entire sports fraternity, particularly the cycling community and the Ministry of the Presidency, Department of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sport.
“Bentley’s contribution towards the development of sports has been exemplary, and he will forever be remembered as the thriving rider that he was.
“It is our hope that his family will take comfort in the outpouring of love and prayers that has been coming from all across the country. May his soul find eternal peace.” A release from the Sports Minister’s office has stated.
The National Sports Commission wrote the following message in paying their respects to the fallen athlete: “The National Sports Commission are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of national cyclist and sports philanthropist Mr. Jude Bentley. Jude’s contribution to sports development has been noteworthy and exemplary.
“As Director of Sports, I wish to extend my sincere condolences to Jude’s family, friends, and loved ones for the immeasurable loss you have just suffered. May you find strength in prayers, and be comforted by the outpouring of love surrounding you, and (may) the loving memories you forever hold in your hearts give you the courage to face the days ahead. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of bereavement”.
Members of the Guyanese sporting community have come together to mourn this monumental loss of an influential member of their society, and a ‘Ride Out and Candlelight Vigil’ was held on Sunday, wherein those who were close to the proprietor of Bentley’s Bike Shop on Robb Street continued to pay him their respects.
