NSTAD graduating class to host “Performance 6 – Retribution” @ NCC

The National School of Theatre Arts and Drama (NSTAD) which was established in 2013 and is housed at the National Cultural Centre, allows persons to gain knowledge and training in theatre arts, drama and refined acting.
It is important to note that it is no walk in the park. The Diploma and Certificate courses run for one year on a part-time basis, and offers in the first semester subjects in stage craft; sound, lights and set design. play 2
Business management, called ‘enterprise and entrepreneurship’; front of house management; properties and stage management; as well we acting and voice, and history of theatre complete the programme.
Several persons who registered for the NSTAD programme thought they were in for ‘a good time’, performing on stage. They never Play 1envisaged the volume of work and time that they had to commit, and sacrifices they’d have to make just to complete the first semester, much less the second. NSTAD is a tertiary institution with a work load equivalent to that of some programmes offered at the University of Guyana.
To close each semester, the school is obligated to present for public viewing, a stage production that involves utilisation of the disciplines practiced and learnt over the six-month period. These practical tests are simply called “performance”.
Come this Saturday evening, August 20, the graduating students of 2016 will present “Performance 6 – Retribution”, at the National Cultural Centre, commencing at 20:00h.
The students will be performing an adapted play from the medieval era by Subraj Singh (a former student), along with three other plays that they wrote.
Additional areas of study in the second semester such as music, dance, movement, directing, playwriting, film and voicing for animation will be demonstrated. Marketing of “Performance 6”, inclusive of advertising material production, a great life skill, is also a part of their responsibility.
NSTAD offers an educative and rewarding experience for those serious about acting and theatre and willing to put in the time and work. Interested persons can enroll for the new academic year 2016-2017 in September 2016.
