The newly elected executive members of the National Toshaos Council (NTC) are expected to be trained in order to function in their respective posts when they are officially appointed on July 18.
This was according to the President of the NTC, Joel Fredericks on Friday during a telephone interview.

He noted that the training will take place from July 16 to 20, and will see 20 Toshaos receiving the necessary training to take over projects that were implemented by the previous Council.
“This present executive, right now, we are making preparations for the new incoming executive. So we want a smooth handover, transparent from this Council to the new Council,” Fredericks stated.
“The training will update the new executive on all of the projects that we are currently working on, past projects, the MoU (Memorandum of Understating) that we signed with APA (Amerindian Peoples’ Association), the relationships that we built with the IDB (Inter-American Development Bank) and other organisations,” he added.
While the current President explained that the appointments cannot be disclosed at this time, he noted that the new executive should be aware of the struggles that were made to be established as an independent organisation.
“I would like to say that this present executive; we have tried our best to really get some independence or worked towards independence as an independent body so we can manage our own resources.”
In recollecting what the current members have achieved since their appointments, the NTC President stated, “We have an office now and three staff working with us. We have made some great steps but it was not easy because when we started off, we didn’t have anything, not even a desk at the Ministry.”
“When I look back at where we came from, I must say that we really worked together to push things forward so what I would like to say to the new incoming executive is that, they will have to continue what we’re leaving off here and it’s not easy.”
He advises the new executives to be vocal in order to make things happen. “It’s a lot of work and you have to prepare to do hard work,” he posited.
