NTFGL title race tightens after Cummings wins Round Five

The race for the Promotech and Danny Auto Sales National Top Flight Golf League (NTFGL) Tour Two title remains wide open after Andre Cummings secured an impressive victory in Round Five at the Lusignan Golf Club on Sunday last.
Cummings returned from the competition’s five-week weather break in excellent form, recording a net score of 70 to win the overall championship and collect 10 points. The victory moved him into fifth place in the overall standings with 10 points.
Anand Persaud continues to lead the championship with 18 points, but Maxim Mangra remains firmly in contention with 17. Joseph Szeplaki occupies third place with 14 points, while Videsh Persaud is fourth on 11.
Szeplaki boosted his title hopes by finishing third in Sunday’s round with a net 74, earning three points. Patrick Prashad placed second with a net 73 and collected five points, while Bala Vijimoor finished fourth with a net 75 for two points.
Videsh Persaud completed the top five with a net 76 and earned one point. After a correction to the scores, he was also officially declared the Front Nine winner with a net 34.
Cummings took the Back Nine prize after matching Persaud’s net 34 before completing his winning overall score.
Brian Hackett provided another memorable moment by registering a hole-in-one on the 19th hole, one of the rarest achievements in the sport.
The tournament resumed after weeks of rainfall forced the suspension of play. Drainage improvements and desilting works carried out by the Lusignan Golf Club grounds staff helped return the course to suitable playing conditions, with firmer fairways and improving greens welcoming the competitors.
Behind the leading five in the championship standings, Vijimoor holds sixth place with seven points. Prashad and Santo Dinanauth are tied with six points, while Arnol Deo and Spencer Hutchings have five each.
Fazil Hanif has four points, followed by Mike Mangal with three. Hackett and Patanjilee Persaud have two points each, while Chet Bowling completes the standings with one point.
With only a few rounds remaining, the narrow margins among the leading players are expected to produce a competitive finish to the season.
The league expressed appreciation to Promotech Guyana Incorporated and Danny Auto Sales for their continued sponsorship and contribution to the development of competitive golf in Guyana.
