A 46-year-old security guard was taken into custody for the murder of a woman whose nude body was found on her bed at her South Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home on Friday last.
Dead: Marlyn Singh, also called Jean
The dead woman has been identified as 53-year-old Marlyn Singh also called Jean. Based on reports received, on the day in question, the dead woman’s brother went to the Turkeyen Police Station and reported the death of his sister, who was last seen alive on December 10, 2020.
After the report was made, the Police found the body naked lying on the bed. The body was examined, but no marks of violence were seen.
However, a post-mortem conducted on the body of the now dead woman proved that she died as a result of asphyxiation due to manual strangulation, compounded by blunt trauma to the head.
The Police have since arrested the security guard, who is currently assisting with the investigations.
However, the Guyana Times understands that the suspect was arrested on Thursday and has since confessed to the murder. He reportedly told detectives that he strangled the woman with whom he shared a relationship after she did not want to have sexual intercourse with him.
A police source stated that on the day in question, the man scaled the woman’s fence and entered her home via the verandah. Nevertheless, the suspect told investigators that after strangling the woman, he left her motionless on the bed and went home.
It was until the following morning; the woman’s body was discovered.
