Off-duty cop, 1 other arrested after tossing ganja out of car
An off-duty Policeman who worked as a taxi driver and a male passenger were on Wednesday evening taken into custody following the discovery of 231 grams of ganja which were thrown out of a car along the Stanleytown Public Road, West Bank Demerara.
Based on reports received, on the day in question, at about 19:00h, Police, acting on information received, intercepted motorcar PZZ 3217. As the car came to a halt, ranks observed a bulky parcel being tossed out thereof by the 28-year-old passenger.
The cannabis that was thrown out of the moving car
The motorcar, the passenger and the 26-year-old driver were taken to the abandoned area where a black bulky parcel was retrieved. Upon inspecting the bag, it was observed that the parcel contained a quantity of cannabis.
Both men were told of the offence, arrested, and taken to the La Grange Police Station. They reportedly claimed ownership of the bag, but refused to give a statement to the Police. The driver claimed to be an off-duty Policeman who works private hire taxi on his off-duty hours.
The narcotics were weighed in their presence and amounted to 231 grams. The passenger remains in custody, while the Policeman has been placed under close arrest. An investigation is underway.
