While there was no on Field action for the Guyanese team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Monday, Table Tennis Player and Boxer Keevin Allicock officially became ‘Olympians’, as they received the necessary certification.

The presentation was made to the Guyanese pair by fellow Guyanese Olympian Aliann Pompey, who handed over the certificates on behalf of the World Olympians Associations (WOA), of which Pompey is an Executive Member.
Similarly, to Pompey, the letters ‘OLY’ will be attached behind Edghill’s and Allicock’s names, signifying their achievement at the Games.
“What you have achieved here can never be undone; this is you forever. Congratulations again, so proud of you both,” the former 400M specialist said to the pair in a social Media post on Monday.
Pompey, is currently apart of the Guyanese contingent at the Tokyo Games as the country’s Athlete Representative.
Although Edghill and Allicock are now out of contention at the Games, the next Guyanese Olympian that will dive into action is Swimmer Andrew Fowler, who will 6 other swimmers in Heat 1 of the Men’s 100m freestyle. Fowler has the fastest entry time in the meet, at 54.10s. he will be in action at 6.00am, local time, on Tuesday (today) morning.
Last Friday, Chelsea Edghill registered Guyana’s first ever win in Table Tennis at the Olympic Games, as she defeated Fiji’s Sally Yee, 4 sets to 1, 11-5, 4-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-8. However, on Saturday morning, Edghill bowed out of the Women’s Singles competition with a 4-0 loss to South Korea’s Shin Yubin. The sets went, 11-7, 11-8, 11-1, 12-10.
On the other hand, Allicock was unable to get past the Dominican Republic’s Alexy de la Cruz in their Round of 32 Featherweight bout, also on Saturday morning. de la Cruz won on unanimous decision.
