“OGBA Paati” and cultural extravaganza for Saturday in NY

The Guyana Independence Celebration Committee (New York) will host an OGBA Paati (Garden Party in Yoruba) and cultural extravaganza on Saturday, September 29, at 16:00h.
The fundraiser event will be held at the roof garden of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave, Brooklyn, NY. Part of the proceeds will benefit homeless children.
Committee Chairman Rickford Burke said the affair will be an explosion of our various cultures. “This concept was inspired by the love and support the Guyana Independence Committee (NYC) has received from other Caribbean nationals as well as our brothers and sisters from Africa,” Burke added. He posited that OGBA Paati will depict unity as well as the unique connectedness of Guyanese and Caribbean heritage to African.
The theme of the event is “Celebrate Our Guyanese, Caribbean and African Culture.” It will feature Guyanese, Caribbean and African artistes who are fluent in authentic Yoruba. Organisers are inviting all Guyanese, Caribbean and African nationals to come in large numbers to celebrate their culture with their national colours and flag.
There will be live performances by DJ Buka and DJ Don from Nigeria; recording artistes Ariel Wins and Tayahna Walcott; Guyanese artistes Trevon Vibes, Brandon Harding and Adrian Dutchin; drummer Akoyaw Rudder; reggae artistes Saine and Linky First, New York panorama champions Desper’s Steelpan Orchestra, as well as top soca artistes Problem Child, Freezy, Mr Kella and Lyrikal.
