According to information provided, the fire started at about 23:30h at the rear end of the building, located on the Ogle Airstrip Road, ECD.
Passersby in the neighbourhood reported seeing thick smoke emanating from the structure and immediately called the Guyana Fire Service.

The structure, comprising of four stories, was completely ruined internally while the concrete skeleton remained intact. From videos circulated on social media, high flames were wafting primarily from the upper part of the building. The interior then collapsed, leaving a pile of wooden debris behind.

A storage facility and other surrounding buildings were not threatened as the situation climaxed. However, the structure was damaged beyond repair.
Guyana Times was informed that the building remained uninhabited after the business closed some years ago. It was later marketed as a banquet hall for other services but this did not work. As such, the rundown structure was completely closed.
On Friday morning, Divisional Commander of Operations at the GFS, Gregory Wickham was at the scene making an assessment of the remains. He told this publication that three tenders showed up to combat the inferno after calls were made to their hotline.
An investigative team would’ve also examined the nature of the fire to provide a report. At that time, he said they were yet to determine the origin of the blaze.
