Oldest active Berbice cricketer honoured

Fyrish second division cricketer, 73-year-old Zamin Hamid was recently honored by the Appiah family for his contribution to the development of the game as a player and administrator and his role in community development.

He is also the oldest active player in the county of Berbice. He participated in the inaugural Ramnarine Appiah Memorial Cricket Competition and was one of the outstanding bowler. He also participates in New Building Society Limited and Raffik and Sons Second Division Cricket Competitions and every other tournament organized by the Berbice Cricket Board.
At a simple but significant ceremony held recently, Mukesh Appiah presented a beautiful plaque to Hamid with his photograph engraved, medals, trophies and a button.
The recipient expressed gratitude to the Appiah family for recognizing his contribution to society in general and promised that he will continue to play as long as possible. Appiah praised Hamid for staying healthy and well at that age to the extent he can still play the game. He urged the youngsters around to emulate the attitude and commitment of the senior citizen.
Other senior citizens honored were the oldest living resident in the area, 97-year-old Gulcharran Kandie, Bharrat Budhram, Partab Mangal and Nelson Crandon.
