…meets with PM on telecoms development
One Communications has announced the appointment of Abraham Smith as its new Chief Executive Officer, a move that comes as Guyana’s telecommunications sector continues to expand alongside broader national growth.

In a statement on Wednesday, the company said Smith brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience across the Caribbean and Latin America, including recent service at the CEO level in one of the region’s largest markets. His appointment places him at the helm of both One Communications’ residential services and Brava, the company’s business arm.
Chairman of One Communications, Brad Martin, said the company views reliable and modern connectivity as essential during Guyana’s current phase of development. He noted that Smith’s leadership experience and understanding of the responsibilities associated with telecommunications management were key factors in the appointment. Martin added that the company expects Smith to strengthen One Communications’ position as a partner in Guyana’s development.
As CEO, Smith will be responsible for improving customer experience across residential and commercial services, strengthening network resilience, and expanding partnerships with enterprise clients.
The appointment coincided with a meeting between executives of One Communications and Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips at the Office of the Prime Minister on Camp Street, Georgetown. The engagement brought together senior representatives from the company’s local and parent operations.
The delegation included Martin, who is also Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN) International; Smith; Deputy Chief Executive Officer Richard Stanton; and Legal Counsel Kadeem Davis.
According to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister, discussions focused on the state of Guyana’s telecommunications sector, including regulatory frameworks, network development, and opportunities for continued investment and collaboration.
The Prime Minister was joined by the acting director of the Telecommunications Agency, Chrissamny Christmah, during the discussions.
