“One Guyana” Basketball League 2024: FANTASTIC FINALE ANTICIPATED TONIGHT

After months of stupendous competition, the “One Guyana” Basketball League would be concluded at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue today, Saturday March 23, with the Kitty/Campbellville Ravens opposing the Stabroek Eagles in what would inevitably be the proverbial mother of all basketball showdowns, especially since the coveted title and bragging rights would accompany the million-dollar winners’ cash prize.
President of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), Jermaine Slater, in a comment invited by Guyana Times Sport, has said he anticipates a very competitive final game tonight.
Slater declared, “I am anticipating a very competitive, and even more competitive, game this Saturday between these teams. Because you can see the fire of competitiveness with everybody now; and at the end of the day, you are playing for a million dollars even though the second place is five hundred thousand.

“Everybody wants a million dollars, so a million dollars and the bragging rights for at least a couple of months until the next league starts (are up for grabs).”
Underlining the amazing story this finale has scripted, Slater has said he believes that pressure is on the coaches to implement strategies that would secure victory for their respective teams.
“There is no better way for this league to finish as the Best of Three series first time in the playoffs in Guyana in the national finals, (as) both teams have won one and (are) now going into the last game; (and) both teams know that they are capable of winning (and) that there is going to be a lot of pressure on the coaches, I believe, to make adjustments in what their team will have to do to come out victorious exactly,” Slater expounded.
The “One Guyana” Basketball League commenced on August 12, 2023 with 14 teams divided into two conferences, the Harpy Eagle Conference and the Jaguar Conference. All games were played at The National Gymnasium. (Omar McKenzie)
