Dear Members of the Board,
I am writing to respectfully request clarification regarding the governance and decision-making processes of Cricket West Indies.
From publicly available information, I understand that the Board of Directors comprises eighteen members under the leadership of President Dr. Kishore Nalin Shallow.
Could you kindly advise why the minutes of Board meetings are not published for public review? Given that Cricket West Indies represents the people of multiple Caribbean nations and territories, many supporters would welcome greater insight into how significant policy and cricketing decisions are reached.
I would also appreciate clarification as to whether Cricket West Indies is regarded as a private organization, a not-for-profit body, or another form of corporate entity, and what governance standards and reporting obligations apply to its operations.
I have also reviewed Cricket West Indies’ Strategic Plan, which identifies Transparency and Accountability as core objectives, including the implementation of regular reviews. Likewise, under Ethical Leadership and Integrity, the Strategic Plan emphasizes promoting ethical behaviour and maintaining organizational integrity.
In that context, I wish to bring to your attention a concern that I have encountered repeatedly among many supporters of West Indies cricket, particularly persons of East Indian descent. Numerous individuals with whom I have spoken, many of whom were born in the Caribbean but now reside abroad, have expressed a perception that suitably qualified players of East Indian descent are not always afforded equitable opportunities for selection to representative teams.
Whether or not this perception is well-founded, it appears to be sincerely held by a significant number of supporters and is frequently expressed on social media and in discussions within the Caribbean diaspora. Some have indicated that these concerns have contributed to their decision to disengage from following West Indies cricket.
Given Cricket West Indies stated commitment to transparency, accountability, ethical leadership, and integrity, I would appreciate your response to the following:
What measures does Cricket West Indies have in place to ensure that player selection is conducted fairly, transparently, and solely on merit?
Does the Board periodically review its selection policies and processes to ensure they are applied consistently and without bias?
Has Cricket West Indies considered publishing Board meeting minutes, governance summaries, or other reports that would provide supporters and stakeholders with greater transparency regarding important decisions?
I submit these questions respectfully and in the hope of fostering greater confidence among supporters throughout the Caribbean and its diaspora. Open communication and transparency can only strengthen public trust in the governance of West Indies cricket.
I look forward to your response at your earliest convenience.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Kris Kooblall
