Operator charged for attempting to kill dredge GM

A 34-year-old man was on Tuesday taken before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where an attempted murder charge was read to him.
Kenny Paul of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, stood before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plea to the indictable charge which stated that on May 17, 2019, at Malibunta Backdam, Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), with intent to commit murder, he wounded Paul Troy.
Reports are the accused and Virtual Complainant are employed at the same mining operation – with Paul employed as an engine operator and Troy the General Manager (GM). According to the prosecution’s case, the two men had a misunderstanding which led to the accused arming himself with a cutlass and dealing the VC several chops to his left arm and to the left side of his face. Troy was rushed to the Mahdia Hospital but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail informing the court that the VC is still hospitalised. Paul was remanded to prison. The case will continue on July 16, 2019, at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Courts.
