Former Essequibo senior inter-county wicketkeeper/batsman Wayne Osbourne hit a pugnacious 98 to steer District Two to a convincing 85-run win over District One in the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) Nation-wide T20 tournament.
Playing at the Imam Bacchus ground in Affiance last Friday, the right-handed Osbourne clobbered 11 fours and three sixes as District Two racked up a formidable 187-6 at the expiration of their overs.
When District One replied, they only mustered a moderate 102 all out off 15.4 overs.
Osbourne received admirable support from Bhudram Lalldas, who weighed in with an entertaining 59 laced with five fours and a maximum.
When District One appeared at the crease, only Carl Harris made a fighting 21 as left-arm spinner Amijab Bisnauth grabbed four wickets for 19 runs from his allotted four overs while Osbourne collected three wickets for 17 runs to complement a fine all-round display.
District One will continue to vie for a qualifying knockout spot when they take on District Four on February 26 at a venue to be named.
