“Our greatest chapter is still ahead of us” – Pres Ali at PPP/C campaign launch
– says ‘red army’ will sweep polls like never before
In his bid for a second term in office, President Dr Irfaan Ali on Sunday declared that there is much more development and transformation to come under the next People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) term in office.
Addressing a crowd of some 30,000 supporters at the Kitty Market Square, where the PPP/C formally launched its 2025 elections campaign on Sunday, Ali reflected on the work done over the past five years by this administration that has seen unprecedented growth in every sector and across the entire Guyana – something that, he noted, will continue in the party’s new term.

“My brothers and sisters, our greatest chapter is still ahead of us. The choice [is yours] to keep Guyana moving forward, lifting every family, strengthening every community and unlocking the full promise of our future,” he posited.
Ali – who is seeking re-election alongside Prime Minister (PM) Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips – says that the “red army” is ready to deliver the biggest victory ever for the PPP/C.
“The only way forward is the red army… Come September 1, we will sweep the polls like never before in the history of Guyana,” President Ali declared to thundering roars from the thousands of PPP/C supporters who travelled to Kitty for Sunday’s launch. “We will not just win, we will make history,” he added, urging supporters to ensure that on election day, “you mark your ‘x’ next to the cup”.
By doing that, “you will be voting for every Guyanese”, the President said.
According to Ali, the PPP/C has truly managed to unite Guyana. This, he indicated, is reflected in the large crowd of people of different backgrounds gathered at the campaign launch. “The march to victory on September 1 starts now,” he said, adding that the PPP/C has grown stronger over the years and is unstoppable.
“We are the party of the common man and everyday woman… We are the people’s party…we do not change with the season; and when you back the PPP, you are not just backing a party, you are backing a cause… Every time we have taken the reign of Government, Guyana has risen…and under the PPP/C, Guyana is rising stronger every day,” he stressed. In fact, the President reminded that every time the People’s National Congress-led A Partnership for National Unity (PNC/APNU) has been in office, they left the country broken and PPP/C had to “clean their mess up”.
Referring to the PPP/C’s competitors, the President said one group of politicians only knows to steal elections while the other only knows to steal taxes.
Party of promises & prosperity
On the other hand, President Ali pointed out that the PPP/C is the engine of development, growth, prosperity and unity.
“We are a party of promise and performance. Every single promise we made to you, we have kept. Every single commitment we made to you, we have fulfilled,” he noted. The Guyanese leader further explained that “what we have achieved in five short years is nothing short of a miracle”.
These achievements, he stated, are as a result of responsible leadership and management of the country’s revenue. “Today…you should be proud, because the record shows it. More than 50,000 house lots… world-class hotels… people don’t invest in a sinking ship… From coast to coast, region to region, community to community, we are building bridges, not barriers… Our investment is in the future,” he said. He also pointed to the investments in new hospitals and clinics across the country, noting that “whilst healthcare is still a work in progress, we will not stop until you have world-class health services” in Guyana.
“We don’t just want a better Guyana. We want a stronger and healthier Guyana,” President Ali said. President Ali also spoke of building a Guyana that takes the centre stage of global leadership, and one where every Guyanese would want to come back home. “We are planning beyond the boundary,” he said, to ensure Guyana is leading in energy security, food security and environmental services.
He added that the PPP/C is building a Guyana in which “we will invest in our human capital”. This includes investments in local artistes/entertainers and athletes.
He said the PPP/C Government will build an ecosystem that will support entertainment and sports tourism to ensure three million people passes through the economy by 2030. He explained that the Government will construct an indoor arena that can host any international event. He also disclosed that the Government will build a modern art gallery at Durban Park. Among other plans for the future are investments in the security sector, removal of bureaucracy in the banking sector, and to improve online banking services, financing for businesses and investment opportunities. A key plan, the President said, is to widen the income-base for every family so they can grow their wealth.
Another plan is to improve the delivery of Government services, to eliminate the “runaround” that often takes place. “So, you don’t have to waste productive time,” the President said. Meanwhile, the President encouraged persons to think clearly about the future they want.
Under the PPP/C, he said the future will see every Guyanese owning their own homes and paying less taxes. He said the PPP/C’s policies are crafted to give citizens more disposable income in their pockets.
“And you can expect that we are going to do more for you”, President Ali assured.
According to the President, the choice is clear: between those who destroy and those who build; those who take away and those who give.
