…Caricom lauds Guyana as a valued regional member
Indian High Commissioner, Dr KJ Srinivasa in his congratulatory message to President Irfaan Ali and the people of Guyana for Independence Day pointed towards renewed partnerships between the two countries since the formation of their historical relationship.
In his statement, the diplomat said India is committed to cooperation and support in key areas that will enhance the country’s socioeconomic fabric.
“Our historical partnership is being further strengthened by new projects and I sincerely believe that the Guyanese path to development and progress will have India as its partner in various sectors. Strengthening more people-to-people ties, assistance in skills and upgrading capacity building, especially in key sectors like agriculture, education, oil and gas, MSMEs will be a cornerstone of our relationship,” the High Commissioner penned.
In addition, the Caribbean Community (Caricom) also congratulated Guyana on the country’s 55th Independence Anniversary.
In his message, the Caricom Secretary General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, lauded the country’s pivotal role in shaping the regional integration movement.
“Guyana has progressed markedly since becoming a nation. Guyanese have made their mark globally in diplomacy, the arts, academia and sport. A valued member of the Caribbean Community from its inception, Guyana has played a pivotal role in shaping our regional integration movement. In addition, being host of the Headquarters of the Caricom Secretariat confers both a symbolic and a physical dimension to the centrality of its role.”
It went on to say that the Community looks forward to Guyana’s continued contributions, especially in capacity as the Lead Head of Government with responsibility for Agriculture and Food Security in the Quasi Cabinet of the Conference of Heads of Government.
“Those priority areas have taken on increased importance under your leadership, as the Community seeks to address and recover from the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Excellency, the Caribbean Community pledges its continued support and commitment to the people and Government of Guyana, especially in relation to the preservation of the country’s territorial integrity. We extend our best wishes for the prosperity and security of Guyana on this momentous occasion and beyond,” LaRocque added.
