Our most powerful neighbour and a friend of Guyana

Dear Editor,
My letter asking where were the signatures of those who rushed to pen their names in protest against a visit to Guyana by President Bolsonaro when our country faced an attempt to install a dictatorship in place of a democratic election has drawn a response from Mr. Eric Moseley, which I suspect deliberately misses the point of my letter.
The only purpose of my letter was to point out that these are signatures of well known, influential, reputed human rights’ defenders of scholarly repute, who failed to raise their voices or lend their signatures in protest, preferring to remain silent when freedom was so seriously threatened in our country, but have suddenly found their voices to protest every issue under the sun, and are therefore, not credible.
I also have a question for Mr Moseley. Why does he find it necessary to descend into the disgustingly popular practice in our country today of judging every person on the basis of their ethnic heritage, by accusing me of being racist because I am of Portuguese descent?
In fact, I am not a fan of Mr Bolsonaro, and if I were Brazilian, I would eschew his politics and would never vote for him.
It is, however, also a fact that the majority of the people of Brazil did vote for him to be their President, and as others have pointed out, when Mr. Bolsonaro visits Guyana as President Bolsonaro, he represents and speaks for the people of Brazil, a nation which happens to be our most powerful neighbour and a friend of Guyana.
