Over 1.8kg ganja unearthed in NA Prison

An investigation has been launched after a quantity of ganja and packets of cigarettes were on Friday discovered at the New Amsterdam Prison.
Reports are that at about 12:30h, the narcotics and 19 packets of cigarettes were unearthed at the prison.
Prison officials told the investigators that the items were found abandoned in the prison’s compound.
The narcotics were handed over to Police to be weighed. The narcotics amounted to 1 kilogram 887 grams.
Meanwhile, ranks of the Guyana Police Force on Thursday morning conducted a raid exercise in Timmers Dam Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, where three persons were arrested for possession of narcotics and stolen items along with the offence of robbery.
Based on reports, ranks had visited the home of a 24-year-old labourer of Timmers Dam Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, where a search was conducted on his home and 497 grams of cannabis was found.
Both him and a 28-year-old female were arrested and placed into Police custody.
At the home of a male suspect of Mount Sinai Village, West Canje, Berbice, a search was also conducted where he was found with a stolen phone. He was subsequently arrested.
A 29-year-old male was also found with several cellular phones and tablets. They were all collected and lodged at the Police station.
The 29-year-old is accused of having a phone in his possession from a recent robbery. (G9)
