Residents of the Mabaruma Sub-District in Region One turned out in large numbers on Tuesday, with more than 100 persons registering for skill training during a public open day hosted by Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud.

During the engagement, Minister Persaud outlined key services of the Ministry, including Support Services for Persons Living with Disabilities (SSPD), the Women’s Innovation and Investment Network (WIIN), the Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA), and the Family Enhancement Services Section (FESS).
Participants registered for disability-focused programmes and free WIIN courses, with training sessions set to be conducted in Mabaruma in the new year. These programmes are designed to equip residents with practical skills to improve employability and support entrepreneurship.
“Our goal is to take services directly to the people and ensure they have real opportunities to improve their lives through skills training and support,” Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr Vindhya Persaud said.
Additionally, Minister Persaud also addressed issues pertaining to senior citizens’ pensions, permanent disability and public assistance.
Also present were CPA Director Levine Gouveia, Assistant Chief Probation and Social Services Officer Samantha Craig, SSPD Training Officer Chelisa Ramlochan, and WIIN Senior Training Officer Oma Nandku.
