Over 150 persons in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) have been charged for violating COVID-19 curfew guideline measures to date, according to statistics presented by the Police Division at the launch of the annual Christmas Policing Plan. In delivering the Regional Policing COVID-19 Review, Inspector Collette Evans emphasised that the Division has been working hard to ensure that all guidelines are being adhered to by citizens. “The Guyana Police Force is mandated to enforce those restrictions and the police in the Regional Division 10 has been enforcing the COVID-19 restrictions where eighty-five cases are presently before the court. From those cases, 153 persons were charged between the period April 2020 to date. In some cases, persons were ordered to pay fines while some were given community service,” Inspector Evans said.
She added that due to the spike in the pandemic in Guyana and further afield, the regional division is enforcing COVID-19 restrictions by engaging, encouraging, educating and enforcing COVID-19 restrictions. Inspector Evans said that while the COVID-19 emergency measures are still in place, ranks are urging members of the public to comply with those restrictions by wearing their face masks, sanitising hands and maintaining good physical and social distancing.
The curfew time across Guyana remains from 22:30h to 04:00h. (G13)
