After the overwhelming success last year telecommunication giants Digicel has launched the second edition of their Triple Treat Softball Competition which has high cash incentives.
The competition which was launched at the company’s Kingston headquarters on Thursday caters mainly for male open teams from Essequibo who will compete for over ,000,000 in cash prizes when action gets underway March 5.
Digicel Retail Sales Manager, Richard Das explained that registration begins tomorrow, with forms available online or at the Speed Talk Mobile, the authorized Digicel dealer store in Anna Regina.
Das went unto say the event is a part of Digicel lending their support towards community development and embracing their customers.
Similarly, Communication Manager Vidya Sanichara stated, “Digicel is leaning more to community activities, youth, sport development and charity and this is one of the signature events and it is for the subscribers based in Essequibo.” Sanichara further stated that she is hopeful that the event can grow to become an annual fixture.
President of the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) Ramchand Ragbeer was most appreciative of the continued support and has pledged his association’s full support.
GFSCA’s point person, Khalid Baksh is looking forward to the excitement once again and took the opportunity to urge all teams to submit match reports in a timely and legible manner and abide by the rules to make the spectacular event a fun filled one.
Last year 24 teams took part in the event and the organisers are hopeful that more teams can participate this year. Registration closes on March 4 just prior to the draw of matches which will be done at Speed Talk Mobile. The competition will comprise of four weekends of elimination matches with most matches taking place on Sundays as to allow those working Monday to Saturday to participate. In the event that some matches are not played on the weekend, arrangements will be made for matches to be played during the week at available venues.
The finals are set for April 1 under floodlights, and a large majority of matches will be played at the Perseverance Beach using the big ball. On finals day will be the triple treat with the duck curry competition and family fun day running simultaneously with cricket and will end with a grand international stage show at the Anna Regina Community Centre.
