Over 26,000 register for $100K Cash Grant with 13,000 to receive payment within next 24-hours

Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh on Monday announced that approximately 26,639 persons out of the over 600,000 have registered through the online portal to date for the Government of Guyana’s $100,000 cash grant.
The Finance Ministry officially launched the online registration platform on Thursday, March 26, allowing Guyanese citizens aged 18 years and older to sign up for this latest tranche of cash disbursement under the Dr. Irfaan Ali-led People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Administration.
“Out of the 26,639 persons who completed their self-registration successfully, I’m delighted to report that we have processed payments for 13,168 persons. Those persons-that is to say, the 13,168 persons for whom we completed the backend verification processes that we have to apply to their data-have already started receiving their cash grants credited to their accounts, and we anticipate that all 13,168 persons will have received their cash grants within the next 24 hours,” the finance minister stated.
This digital platform allows beneficiaries to receive the cash grant directly into their bank accounts, which is being touted as the easiest, fastest, and most efficient method.
As part of the registration process, eligible Guyanese, that is, citizens aged 18 years and older as of February 28, 2026, will have to establish an account on the portal with their basic personal information (name, address, and telephone number) and provide a valid national identification (ID) card or Guyana passport.
Applicants will also have to undergo a facial recognition test or a liveness test, as well as provide their bank account information. While there has been some criticism about this method of distributing the cash grant, the finance minister said during his update that there has been a tremendous response, with numerous persons taking advantage of this self-registration tool.
The minister added that 22,611 persons have started the self-registration process and are at various stages of completion, urging them to log in again and finish their applications. But many have been complaining about not getting onto the portal after completing the first step.
Addressing challenges faced by users, the minister acknowledged that heavy traffic on the platform has been an issue and encouraged persons to try accessing the system at different times.
“If [you] encounter perhaps heavy traffic at the initial attempt, as I have previously indicated, I want to urge them perhaps to log in later at a time when the traffic might be a little bit slower, because we are seeing very heavy traffic volumes up to now,” he stated.
The government is completing the verification process for individuals who have finished their self-registration and will continue processing those who have successfully done so. The minister indicated that applications will be handled in successive batches as the process progresses.
As a result, with the initial 48,858 persons and an additional 13,168 processed, a total of 62,026 individuals will have had their cash grants deposited directly into their bank accounts.
“We are completing the verification process for the others who would have completed their self-registration process, and we will continue to process those who have successfully completed their self-registration processes. We will continue to process these in successive batches progressively as we go along.”
Dr. Singh explained how significant sums are being delivered directly to Guyanese citizens with ease. “This, of course, results in a total of $6.2 billion being delivered to the citizens of Guyana without any of these citizens having had to leave their homes, join a line, or suffer the inconvenience of traveling to multiple locations to register, uplift their cheques, or cash or deposit them.”
This latest cash grant initiative was rolled out last week, with nearly 50,000 Central Government employees being the first category of beneficiaries to receive their $100,000. That first cohort of 48,858 employees, comprising public servants, teachers, and members of the disciplined services, received their cash grants via their bank accounts, amounting to approximately $5 billion.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of the rollout of this 2026 cash grant, the Ministry of Finance, together with the Central Bank, collaborated with financial institutions to simplify the process of opening bank accounts and facilitate the opening of these accounts online.
Among the commercial banks that have since been facilitating the online opening of bank accounts are Demerara Bank Limited (DBL), Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI), Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited, and Scotiabank Guyana Incorporated.
During the previous national cash grant initiative in late 2024 into 2025, more than $60 billion of disposable income was transferred into the pockets of over 600,000 Guyanese. Another $60 billion is expected to be transferred in this second round of distribution.
These two cash distribution exercises come on the heels of the first National Cash Grant of $25,000 per household that was paid when the PPP/C resumed office in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
