Over 30 young people registered for Kwakwani Police Waterfront Youth Group

…as Police expand community engagement efforts

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Friday and Saturday conducted a series of community outreach activities across the Ituni, Kwakwani and Mabura districts, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) as part of efforts to strengthen ties with residents and promote public safety.

On Friday, a community engagement walkabout was held within the Ituni Station District. The exercise was led by Inspector R. Jackson alongside Woman Sergeant Quimbie, the Subordinate Officer-in-Charge of the Ituni Police Station. In a post by Radio Eve Leary, the GPF online radio station, it was stated that during the walkabout, officers visited several sections of the district where they met residents and engaged in discussions. The initiative focused on strengthening police-community relations, encouraging open communication and promoting a safer environment through partnership. Key issues addressed included crime prevention and reporting procedures, the importance of community–police partnerships, domestic violence awareness, youth involvement in positive activities, drug and alcohol abuse and respect for the law. Residents were encouraged to raise concerns and report suspicious activities promptly.

On Saturday, Woman Corporal Williams, Woman Constable David and a team of ranks conducted a community outreach at the Kwakwani Waterfront area. The activity aimed to register youths for the upcoming Kwakwani Police Waterfront Youth Group. More than 30 youths registered to join the group. According to the police, parents expressed appreciation for the programme, which is intended to provide young people with opportunities to participate in structured activities. Also on Saturday, ranks conducted a community outreach within the Mabura Police Outpost Station District. Corporals Isaacs and Persaud led the initiative. The outreach sought to promote public awareness, enhance safety, build trust, encourage safe road practices, reinforce a zero-tolerance approach to domestic violence and urge residents to report unusual or suspicious activities.
