The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) acting on information received, intercepted a motor car in the vicinity of Rahaman Park, Houston, East Bank Demerara (EBD), on Monday and found eight bulky parcels containing suspected cannabis.

The discovery of 15.566 kg of foreign and local cannabis valued at over $4.7 million resulted in the arrest of the driver, 39-year-old Duvendra Sukhdeo of lot 14 Republic Park, EBD.
Meanwhile, on Sunday Police arrested two men after they were busted with some 15lbs of marijuana at around 11:30h along the Seafield Public Road, West Coast Berbice.

Reports are that a Police mobile patrol acting on information received, stopped a minibus and escorted it to the Weldaad Police Station.
At the station, a search was conducted on a 44-year-old male passenger where three wrapped parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in the travelling bag which he had in his possession.
He was told of the offence, arrested, cautioned and admitted possession of the said suspected cannabis.
A further search was carried out in the minibus where a green and grey haversack was seen in the trunk belonging to a 23-year-old male passenger. That too contained three bulky parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The passenger was told of the allegation, arrested and cautioned and he denied possession of the said narcotics.
The suspected cannabis was weighed and those found in the first suspect’s possession amounted to 3175 grams while the second set of cannabis weighed 3853 grams.

Both suspects are presently in custody assisting with investigations.
Only two days ago CANU nabbed a minibus conductor with 44.5 grams of cannabis.
The bust was made while CANU was conducting operations at Macaw Road and Arapaima Street, Tucville, Georgetown, near the Turning Point Sports Club.
Prior to this incident, a 33-year-old nail technician was intercepted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, with 6.232 kilograms (13.71 pounds) of cocaine last week.
The woman was an outgoing passenger on Copa Airlines destined for Panama with an onward connection to the John F Kennedy International Airport, New York.
CANU in a previous report stated that a search was conducted on one of the passenger’s check-in luggage during which the cocaine was found in two bowls – one with curry and the other with pepper pot.
Following the discovery, the woman was arrested and escorted to the CANU headquarters where the cocaine was weighed and amounted to 6.232 kilograms. (G9)
