Over 42 lbs ganja unearthed in separate busts

Police in B Division (Berbice) have confiscated some 18kg (more than 42 pounds) of marijuana and arrested two drivers following two separate drug busts.
The first incident took place at Bath Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) were Police acting on intelligence stopped and searched a Toyota Carina 212 motor car driven by a 20-year-old man.

During the search, the ranks found five well-taped parcels hidden in a black shoulder bag on the back seat of the motor car. The parcels were opened in the presence of the driver and the illicit substance was found. It was subsequently weighed and amounted to 9.07kg (19.95lbs).
The driver was taken into custody and was being processed for court. Meanwhile, in the second incident, a 23-year-old man was taken into custody after 9.17kg (20.16lbs) of compressed marijuana was found in a car he was driving at Number 27 Village, WCB.
Information reaching Guyana Times revealed that the car driven by the 22-year-old had breached a Police cordon that was erected in front of the Fort Wellington Police Station causing ranks to take evasive action.
However, the Police went in pursuit of the vehicle, which later crashed into a tree at Number 23 Village, WCB. On approaching the crashed vehicle, Police saw two men exit and board another car which sped away from the scene.
Again, the Police gave chase and the car reportedly turned into a street at Number 27 Village, but later veered off the road and ended up in a nearby trench. Two males were reportedly seen exiting the vehicle and subsequently escaped down the dark street.

At that point, the driver, who is employed with a water company, was arrested after he was caught attempting to dispose of a bag containing 19 parcels of compressed marijuana. The parcels were later weighed.
The Police are making every effort to arrest the two other men who escaped from the scene.
