Over 45 containers on residential lot trigger CH&PA crackdown 

The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) has launched enforcement action against the unauthorised storage of over 45 shipping containers on a residential lot at Parcel 1614, Plot B, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
Officers from the CH&PA’s Enforcement Department inspected the property over the weekend and found the containers being stored on the lot. No one was present at the time of the inspection.
According to the Authority, the activity is unauthorised and contrary to the approved use of the property, which is designated for single-family residential purposes.
CH&PA also raised safety concerns over the manner in which the containers have been stacked, noting the potential risk to persons in the surrounding area.
As a result, the Authority served a Notice of Contravention directing that all storage activities cease immediately and that the containers be removed within this week.
The CH&PA has reminded property owners and occupiers that any development or change in land use must comply with planning requirements and receive the necessary approvals.
The authority said it will continue to monitor housing schemes and take enforcement action against unauthorised developments and activities that contravene planning regulations or the approved use of residential lands.
It said the enforcement measures are intended to protect residential communities and promote orderly development.
