Over 5000 persons receive COVID-19 vaccine in Region 2

Regional Health Officer, Dr Ranjeev Singh

Region Two Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr Ranjeev Singh is urging Guyanese to take the COVID-19 vaccines to protect themselves from the severe effects of the coronavirus as the opportunity has been made available for them. He said that to date, over 5000 persons in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) were vaccinated.
While speaking with the media recently, Dr Singh said the region has 39 active cases and he believes once persons take the vaccine, the rate will go down.
“The programme has intensified in the region and targets persons 18 years and older and also persons living with chronic illness. So with us immunising these persons, it is going to be a major achievement within the region and as such we will be COVID free,” the RHO said.
Vaccination sites are available at Charity, Windsor Castle, Dartmouth, Anna Regina, Queenstown, Abram Zuil, Huis’t Diren, and Good Hope Health Centres from 08:00h to 16:00h daily. There are also mobile sites where frontline workers are stationed to give the vaccines.
On Sunday, the region had a massive COVID-19 Vaccination Drive at Taymouth Manor Primary School, Affiance. The vaccination campaign aims to immunise approximately 500 residents per day in the region.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health advised that persons should adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines and as such those who take the vaccine must still wear their masks, practice social distancing, sanitise, and also avoid huge crowds.
