Home News Over $9M owed in rates and taxes to Linden municipality
The municipality of the Linden Mayor and Town Council (LM&TC) said that over $9 million is owed in rates and taxes by residents across the Linden community in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice). It was noted that the municipality has been experiencing a reoccurring trend where some residents of the mining town have not been paying their rates and taxes. According to the statement, the Council is owed the sum resulting from defaulting taxpayers in the North Mackenzie, One Mile, Wisroc Housing Scheme, Half Mile, Watooka, Fair’s Rust, Richmond Hill and Noitgedacht areas. The municipality is currently urging persons who are in arrears to make a special effort to offset all of the outstanding rates and taxes payments and has published a list of those in arrears. Just recently, as is customary each year, the municipality had offered a period of amnesty in an effort to have outstanding payments made.
