Four persons, including two overseas-based Guyanese, have been injured in an accident which occurred on the Bamia public road in Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice).
Reports are that the accident occurred at 22:10h on Friday and involved motorcar PZZ 9378, driven by a 25-year-old of Alstrom Alley, Christianburg, Linden, and motor lorry GZZ 7899, owned and driven by Teerav Pachai, a resident of Best Village, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Injured are Oneeka Baird, mother of the driver of the motorcar, and Precia Jerrick, both of Alstrom Alley Christianburg, Linden; while Judith Marine and Marry Marine of St Lucia were also injured in the motorcar.
According to the Police, motor lorry GZZ 7899 was proceeding east on the northern carriageway of the Bamia public road while motorcar PZZ 9378 was proceeding in the opposite direction on the southern carriageway when, according to the driver of the motorcar, a bright light dazzled his eyes and he lost control of the car, and thus it collided with the front right side of the motor lorry.
The occupants of the car received injuries about their bodies and were all taken to the Linden Hospital Complex by public-spirited persons.
They were all examined and admitted as patients there.
The Police have said the motor lorry driver alleged that he saw the vehicle with its light on coming towards him in his lane at a fast rate of speed, and he swerved north to avoid a collision, but despite his efforts, the car came into contact with the right side of the lorry, and both vehicles received extensive damage.
The driver of the motor lorry is in custody assisting with further investigations. (G9)
