Parents call for resignation of Rama Krishna Head Teacher
Parents of children who attend the Rama Krishna Primary School continue to vent their frustration as they call for the relevant authorities to look into their pleas for the headmistress of the school to step down.
According to information reaching Guyana Times, the headmistress, Melanie Cornette, is accused of mismanagement and poor leadership hence the call for her resignation.
Only recently, parents again picketed the Head and stated that they were left with no other option but to highlight their issues and concerns in the media. They want the relevant authorities to take immediate action, or they will escalate their protest.
Some of the troubling issues that were highlighted in the letters to the Education Ministry and in the media in the past include the head teacher’s mismanagement and harassment of the school’s vendors in October 2015; verbal threats and abuse made to the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) President and other parents; the refusal to allow the PTA to function; daily unprofessional behaviour; and (alleged) misappropriation of school funds.
Another letter, dated December 7, 2016, detailed the unprofessional behaviour of the headmistress in dealing with a staff member in the presence of a parent. The headmistress allegedly hurled racial remarks while attempting to physically assault her in the process.
Moreover, in July 2016, a group of parents of Grade Six children met with reporters to vent their frustration over the misappropriation of funds that were contributed for their children’s graduation.
Cornette was also accused of misuse of financial contributions made to the school by parents to offset the school’s tel
ephone bills and the purchase of fuel for her personal vehicle and that of another staff member.
