A 59-year-old businessman of Recht-door-Zee, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was beaten and robbed by 5 armed men at his home early this morning.
Police say the incident occurred between 03:26-03:45h this morning.
According to information, the businessman and his wife were eating outside their home at the time of the incident. The man’s daughter took the garbage to the front of the yard when she heard what sounded like a gunshot.
She rushed back into the yard while five masked men followed her. One of the men, armed with a gun, approached the businessman and lashed him to the head causing injuries while another demanded that the man’s wife hand over the money.
The men, according to the Police, had knowledge that the woman was the one who handled the money.
The woman handed over a black haversack with an undisclosed sum of cash after which the bandits proceeded to relieve the family one Samsung Galaxy S10 cellphone, one A10 S Plus cellphone, and a quantity of gold jewellery.
The bandits armed with cutlasses and a gun escaped on foot. The family raised an alarm and the Police were summoned.
Investigations are ongoing.
