Parfaite Harmonie family terrorised, robbed during home invasion

A La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) family was on Sunday evening terrorised and robbed after three gunmen invaded their property. The incident reportedly occurred at about 20:45h.
At the time of the incident, 46-year-old Suresh Balram along with his wife, Bibi Balram, 40, and their two daughters, aged 15 and 17, were at home.
The family members were relieved of several mobile phones, a pair of spectacles; US$125, $60,000, a quantity of Digicel and GT&T phone cards and over $1.2 million in gold jewellery.
Police stated on the day in question, the victims were at home in the living room in the lower flat of the house when they were confronted by the three men – who were all armed with guns.
Upon entering the house, the men held the victims at gunpoint during which Bibi Balram was dealt one blow to the face with a handgun, thus causing her to receive injuries.
One of the men then dealt Suresh Balram one lash to his head with a gun as they demanded money and jewellery.
The perpetrators then demanded that the victims lay face down on the floor and tied their hands behind their backs.
The men then ransacked the house and grocery store before making good their escape. However, the victims managed to untie themselves and raised an alarm.
Checks were made and it was then discovered that the items mentioned were missing. The Police were contacted and an investigation is underway. The husband and wife were taken to the West Demerara Hospital where they were treated and sent away.
